Welcome to the 2009-2010 Sociology job market rumor forum. This iteration follows the format of the last few years' successful blogs. I'm trying a discussion forum format instead of a blog this year to cut down on how much you have to read through to find specific information. The basics:
Please do not list names
Please maintain a supportive, helpful environment
Feel free to share positive and negative job search/interviewing experiences

I second the motion to ban the troll's IP address(es) from being able to access this forum... I am all for free speech but jeezus, get a life already.
How to ban an IP?
Admin >> Ban Member >> Select the box IP Address, and next to it put her IP, and select "Update Ban List".
or
As far as blocking an IP from a site, yes, there is. If you know the IP, go to your admin panel, click 'ban members'. You should be able to input her IP, and when you want her ban to expire [never is an option]. Save your changes, and you should be set.

Problem with banning by IP address is that is any of these trolls are accessing this site from their departments, changing IP is as easy as changing the computer they are in, and banning entire institutions would be too much.
The best thing would be to ignore the trolls. The economist troll went a month without anyone seriously replying to him/her, but now apparently people want to seriously discuss neoclassical economics with the troll
can hs or anyother admin regulate on the spam that has now been posted in several threads on this message board? i dont know how to stop it, but i assume deleting them as quickly as possible will reduce the number of times it happens in the future. (though i do prefer elite escort girls over economists)
