Harvard University Program in Ethics and Health
Application Deadline
2009-12-11
Title
Post-doc fellowship (1)
Short Description
2 year Fellowship
Detailed Description
The Post-Doctoral Fellowship program in the Harvard University Program in Ethics and Health is devoted to furthering research and teaching in ethical issues arising in health care and public health. The fellowship draws on work in analytic moral and political philosophy to focus on ethical issues in health policy and population and international health, including health system reform, prioritization of health resources, social inequalities in health, controversies arising over international health research involving human subjects, and ethical dilemmas in the practice of public health. Hallmarks of work in this area are: concern with health as well as health care, an emphasis on the developing world, engagement with economists and epidemiologists, expanding bioethics to address issues raised by demographic trends, attention to state responsibilities and constraints in public health. The fellowship is directed toward individuals who want to add ethics and health to their field of competence. We also welcome applications from individuals who want to pursue work in more traditional bioethics.
This is a full-time, two-year fellowship. The current stipend is approximately $42,600 per year. Fellows participate in a weekly seminar series and working groups, may take appropriate courses, and will pursue their own research under the direction of a faculty mentor.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold an advanced degree (PhD or equivalent, MD, JD, etc.). US citizenship is not required. Applicants should have a career interest in research in bioethics, especially as it relates to health policy and population and international health. Successful applications have included those with doctoral level preparation in analytic philosophy, economics, and health policy or population health.
