Cornell said that they would be interviewing at APPAM--that's next week. Has anyone been contacted?

This is for the family/child policy position? I heard from a reliable source that there is an "inside" candidate for that position.

Not so much an "inside" line, but I was told that they "have someone in mind." So, it's probably not totally conclusive. Heck, you might be that person! (This wasn't too long ago)

One can hope, but dashed hopes seem to be the norm

The fact you have not even made the top 30 candidates indicates you're not much. Try a 4/4 or community college. A couple hundred apps might get you hired there. For the record, there's nothing wrong with being a crop duster. You make people like me look all the better.

Considering I didnt apply because it's not my area, Im not surprised I didnt get a call. Im good, but not that good. And in any case, being the 2nd choice is as good as being the last. So please, let us know when you get a job, and until then we will save you a place on the unemployment line.

1) There isn't an "insider" for the child/family policy position in the Dept. of Policy Analysis and Management.
2) Several Cornell departments are conducting searches for which sociologists are in the running: PAM has the child/family position, ILR has a labor history/collective bargaining position, and Sociology has an open area, assistant/associate position. Candidates for the PAM and ILR positions have been invited for interviews and are starting to visit now.
The deadline for the Sociology position (assistant / associate) isn't until late December. It is likely to be well into January before the files get read, given the winter break.
It may be worth starting a new "status of search" thread for the Sociology position, or at least making sure we identify which "Cornell" search we're talking about in our posts.
