Just something to share... I've created a scrapbook called FAILURE. I'm saving all my rejection letters. I've bought cute stickers to plaster all over these letters. I actually look forward to rejection notices now (I'm sick, I know, but jesus, something needs to take the edge of this horrid, depressing process). Anyway, I wondered what more experienced vets of the job market do to cope with the inevitable failures ahead.

I keep a large folder with all of my rejection letters -- jobs, papers, fellowships, etc. -- to show future advisees if they ever have a crisis of self-doubt.

A scrapbook is a great idea!!! It's way cooler than what I've always joked I'd do with my stack: wall-paper my part-timer office walls. Three years of job letter rejections would cover one whole wall and then some. A scrapbook is less confrontational and I could whip out at parties to turn the mood into a pity-party! :-)
(Thanks for helping to keep the Rumor Mill somewhat light-hearted!)
