Illinois Hiring Freeze

U Illinois implementing furloughs and freezing new hires. Effective immediately. Looks like offers already extended are safe.

This doesn't seem absolute. It says that offers may still be extended with the appropriate approval (which, I'm imagining, would have been granted before they posted the job ad). Also, jobs that are grant-funded are not subject to the hiring freeze. I'm not sure about the Sociology job, but it was my understanding that the similar job opening in the Public Health Department is predominantly grant-funded. So, perhaps it's not all gloom and doom - or perhaps my continued sense of optimism should be tempered...
