The Department of Sociology at Rider University seeks candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning September, 2010. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in quantitative research and will teach Research Methods as well as substantive courses. The primary substantive areas of interest are race/ethnicity and gender. Additional areas will be considered to the extent that they complement the current strengths of the Department. Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching undergraduates and show promise of ongoing scholarship. The applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.
The normal teaching load is three course sections and two course preparations per semester. Classes are small, ranging from 10 to 40 students, allowing rewarding working relationships between faculty and students.
Rider is a four-year undergraduate university with three colleges: Liberal Arts, Education and Sciences; Business; and Music and Performing Arts. We are located between New York City and Philadelphia, in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, just south of Princeton, and on the Northeast Corridor rail line that links cities from Boston to Washington D.C. Our location makes it feasible to participate in a rich and vibrant scholarly community that includes numerous universities within easy reach. At the same time, we are near Trenton, the state capital, providing access to state government resources and opportunities to contribute to policy debates.
