Job Description:
The Department of Sociology at American University, College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a one year temporary position at the assistant professor level to begin fall semester 2009. Duties include teaching undergraduate Sociology courses in the AU General Education Program, in particular, Contemporary Arab World, and Global Sociology as well as directing the Arab Studies Program, which offers an undergraduate minor and a certificate. (Students in the undergraduate Minor and Certificate Program have the opportunity to study the region from numerous perspectives and to gain proficiency in the Arab language. The sociology course, Contemporary Arab World, is a core course in the program.) Qualifications for the position include: Ph.D. in sociology or related field, evidence of excellent teaching and strong research promise. American University is seeking highly dedicated teachers and scholars who are deeply committed to interdisciplinary learning, the application of new technologies in teaching and scholarship, and to the preparation of students for life in a diverse and rapidly changing global society.
