The post that the University of Cincinnati has a hiring freeze is not true! Last week our department head talked to the Dean, who still says we'll get at least one hire. I don't know who posted that there was a hiring freeze, but it's not someone who is in the department. Well, being from Miami, I am suspicious. Being able to read or write immediately disqualifies anyone from being a Bearcat! ;D

Has anyone heard if Ohio State, UC-Boulder, or USC are hiring? I heard they may be at ASA.

Princeton sociology will not be hiring this year - I have that from a very good source.

My guess (only slightly informed) is that they will not be hiring this year.

What about any of the Washington or Oregon schools, besides UW? I think U of Oregon hired a couple of people last year, so they're probably not hiring.

Do you mean places in Texas? If so, there are opportunities in: 1. UT--Permean Basin 2. Rice 3. UT Austin [public policy] 4. Baylor 5. Sam Houston State
and a few more. Not sure about Texas A&M, though they've been rumored to hire

I'll also heard a rumor about A&M; although I've also heard it's a horrible place to work.

Re: A&M being a "horrible" place to work? Could you contextualize what you mean by horrible? A good friend of mine has worked at A&M for several years now. Hu tells me that the university is flush with cash for research, and the department is calm and collegial (there's a little infighting everywhere). Hu has the opportunity to do hu's work and to collaborate with grad students. However, A&M is a couple of hours from Austin and Houston, and the town (I forget the name) is a conservative college town. My friend still seems happy there.

What's the teaching load in soc at A&M? The crim department has a load of 4/4.
