Apparently they have extended an offer, for the open-discipline position. If he does not accept, they will not be hiring anyone.

He accepted. Which should mean Duke will still be looking for someone.

That is to say, he accepted the Stanford offer and turned down the offer he got from Duke. I don't know what Duke plans to do now.

Said superstar has offers from Harvard, Michigan and Rice, I think Duke offered it to someone else

Dear applicants for the Assistant Professor of Sociology position at Stanford,
I wanted to let you know that we have completed our search for the position of assistant professor of sociology. We made an offer to Cristobal Young, who will be joining us in the fall. As one who has served on many search committees over the years, I must say that I have never seen such an impressive field of applicants. I was so impressed with the work of many of you that I look forward to meeting you and seeing your work in years to come.
My best wishes, Paula England Search Committee Chair, Stanford

At lest they had the courtesy to tell us--and gave us the guys name so we could look up his CV and note that he doesn't know the difference between an editorial and an op-ed, even if he does have a first-authored ASR pub. Just saying .

Stanford is lucky - in addition to being a top-notch scholar, Cristobal is a great guy. He also plays guitar in the Princeton Soc. band NAFTA, seen here at the recent holiday party along with Paul DiMaggio, who got up and sang Stand By Me with them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_W6Zh21oAw (way too much background screaming to be a good clip, but still...) Cristobal is the tall dude with the guitar in front of the fireplace.

I know him too (vaguely) and can confirm that he's a cool dude. Good for Stanford.
