Does anybody know what's up with the Harvard Search? The listing seems to have disappeared from the job bank.

Word among us servants here is that the person they wanted has been given an offer. Its the same person Duke just interviewed. We'll see who she picks!

Boy. You know a discipline is in the crapper when a last name is sufficient to get you a job offer.

Well, this person also appears to have a single, lead ASR paper and a very nice book contract... and is doing very interesting and IMPORTANT work. Pretty impressive... I am trying to get over my jealousy/insecurities and just remain in awe.

It reminds me a bit of Devah Pager at Princeton... I recollect she did well on the job circuit, & its hard to argue with her publication record. Thank goodness there are not several of these quality people on the market at once. It would be tough for the 500 other PhDs on the market, & lack NAME and a platinum resume [vs. 'sterling', even].

well there is at least one other. there's someone on the market at Madison with 2 books out and a bunch of articles including an AJS one forthcoming.

I was told by a knowledgeable source at UW that this individual would be part of the Harvard Society of Fellows.

I heard from a reliable source that there is a guy in a top 5 program who owns magical underpants.

I heard from a reliable source that there is a guy in a top 5 program who owns magical underpants. Not just magical underpants. Magical underpants, indestructible bracelets that automatically write references in the ASA style, an invisible plane that takes hu once a year to the ASAs, and the lasso of data, which, once applied to a person, will yield a complete transcript of an in depth interview OR will automatically fill a survey for that person. "Jesus tap-dancing, spreadable Christ on a frickin' cracker"

Ha! The part that made me snicker the most was the "hu". Is it just me, or is that annoying beyond belief? Am I the last person out there unfamiliar with this designation?

I think overly PC sociologists are the only people ever to use "hu." I find it ridiculously annoying.

meh... in this case, it's to maintain the anonymity of the super sociologist.
I mean, if I used he or she instead of hu, y'all would figure out way too quickly which supersociologist with the lasso of data I was talking about.

There's someone at Harvard as well with a long pub record so what is considered a *long* pub record? 4? 6? 10? also which douchebag registered the name "Anon" it took me like 5 tries to figure out that's why it wouldn't post this
